First week in vegas during the WSOP

I showed up and had fun before the WSOP started. I was hanging out with Matt and we played some 1/2 NL and 1/2 PLO. I also managed to drop 3k in blackjack. Counting has gone very badly for me. I am 100% sure I am counting properly, but working on a 1% edge is very small. I would estimate my edge in poker is around 3-5%, and my swings in that are huge. A 1% creates substantially bigger swings. It doesn't bother me though, and I hit my stop loss, so that's all that matters.

I played the $1k NLHE event at the WSOP, now that it's officially started. I spent the entire day grinding a short to barely below average stack, and simply couldn't get any traction. I made several really big laydowns, including folding TT to a 3bet when I had only 11bb. I was right and he had JJ.
I eventually busted with only 10 minutes left of play in day 1 when I shoved with K4s with 9bb and ran into aces.

I'm going to play the $1500 limit Omaha 8 or better tourny today. Wish me luck.

I'll see you across the felt.

A Big Score

Biggest cash game week of my life last week. I won like $35k last week.
I was playing 50/100 PLO8 and NLHE heads up in Malibu, and won like $25k. It was a pretty tough match, but I made two really big hands where I won huge pots.
The first one was where I had AsKcQs4c, and reraised preflop. He called and flop was Ts9c3c. I bet he called. The turn was the Js. This card gives me the nut straight, the nut flush draw, the second nut flush draw, and redraws to a higher straight. So I bet, he raised me all in! It's pretty crazy when there is no bad card in the deck except a board pair. Of course the board pairs on the river. But thankfully he had a lower straight and I won the 14k pot.
I won another huge pot when I had JJ and he had A3, and the flop came out AJ3. Not much skill involved there.

I've also gone out and got a lot of backing for the WSOP. I now have almost 30k in backing for the WSOP. That's huge for me. I can now comfortably say I have the money I need to play all the events I want to. I'm ready to take Vegas head on this year, and I expect to walk away with the money. Watch out, I'm playing good and running even better.

I'll see you across the felt.

April Showers, May Flowers

... which get immediately trampled on.

Started off May by losing 10k in the first two days. I've been pretty sick of losing live, and I was actually sick. So I decided to take a break and just play online poker for a while. It's good for my sleep schedule too, which I have to normalize by the time the WSOP comes around. I've been trying to step my game up to improve and focus on playing better. I even took some time to today to actively look for leaks to plug, something I haven't done in a while. I think I might've found a few preflop leaks, and I'll examine it more before the WSOP comes around.

I'm also actively learning PLO now. I used to just play whenever I felt like it, but now that I have some people I can discuss strategy with it, I'm trying harder to learn the game. It also helps I'm playing online, which gives me a chance to play the game at much lower stakes than I can in a live setting. I'm also winning online which is giving me motivation to play.

I've been working on trying to get backing for the WSOP as well. I was pretty suprised but, getting backing is actually fairly time consuming. Drawing up contracts and making deals takes a while. It's taking care of all the small details. It's been well worth it, because now I'm getting partially backed into several events and have a place to stay during the WSOP.

Wish me luck. These upcoming three months are going to be some of the most important in my life.

I was banking against some big blackjack players when I was at the hustler. Banking means you pay a small fee to be the house against the other players. I was paying about $20 in order to bank against $6k in bets. Unfortunately the big players got the best of me and ended up winning around 3k.

I was down almost 10k this month, but managed to salvage my losses in poker in the past 3 days. I booked a 3k win, a 3.3k win and a 1.2k win in three consecutive days. Feels good to starting winning again. I'm looking forward to May.
